Roseup Launches National Consultation Highlighting the Unique Challenges Faced by Solo Mothers with Cancer
PARIS – As Pink October 2025 approaches, the association Roseup is sounding the alarm on a largely overlooked crisis: the disproportionate hardship experienced by solo mothers battling cancer. A new national consultation, launched today, aims to document the specific struggles of these women and advocate for targeted support from public authorities.
Cancer’s impact extends far beyond medical treatment, disrupting social, family, professional, and financial stability. For solo mothers, these consequences are significantly amplified, creating a ”double invisible penalty” of illness and single parenthood. Aurélia, a single mother, exemplifies this reality, navigating administrative hurdles and relying on resourcefulness to provide for her three children amidst a substantial income loss due to her illness.
Roseup’s initiative stems from the recognition that existing support systems fail to adequately address the unique needs of this vulnerable population. Being a solo mother undergoing cancer treatment means managing the disease, its side effects, and daily life without the support network most patients rely on.
“Today, no specific device takes into account this double problem,” states Roseup, prompting the launch of the national consultation to gather objective testimonies and data. The goal is to present a clear picture of this hidden reality and urge policymakers to implement appropriate resources.
Solo mothers affected by cancer are invited to participate in the consultation by completing a questionnaire available at https://forms.gle/MrcEnX3boi3MRyAE8.
