Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Reports Zero New RSV Cases as Respiratory Illnesses Circulate
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is currently experiencing a period of low respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity, with no new cases reported in the 45th calendar week of 2025. However, other respiratory illnesses, including influenza, remain present across the region and nationwide, according to recent data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
The absence of new RSV cases represents a meaningful decrease from earlier in the year, when the state reached a peak of 270 new cases in calendar week 10/2025, resulting in an incidence of 16.58 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. While RSV incidence is currently at 0 per 100,000, ongoing surveillance is crucial, especially for infants, young children, and the elderly who are most vulnerable to severe illness. The RKI continues to monitor trends in respiratory diseases to inform public health responses and provide timely facts to the public.
Nationwide, the RKI’s GrippeWeb online portal tracks self-reported illness data. In calendar week 44/2025, 9,358 individuals across Germany, including 1,738 from the Eastern region, submitted reports on their health status. These reports are not laboratory-confirmed diagnoses but provide valuable insights into the spread of respiratory illnesses.
