Saturday Night Live UK Names Production Team as 2026 Launch Nears
LONDON – Sky has announced the key production team behind the upcoming UK adaptation of Saturday Night Live, confirming Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video will oversee the series alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio. The show, slated to air on Sky Max and stream on NOW in 2026, aims to replicate the format of the long-running US comedy staple with a new cast of British comedic talent, guest hosts, and musical performances.
The declaration comes as excitement builds for the UK version of the iconic sketch show. Comedian Pete Davidson, a current SNL star, recently expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting it’s ”about time the UK is able to take from US comedy, rather than the other way round.” He highlighted the influence of British comedy on American television, citing The Office and the work of Ricky Gervais as examples of shows and performers widely popular in the US.
The UK series will mirror the original SNL‘s structure, featuring a core cast of new comedic players alongside rotating guest hosts and musical guests. Lorne Michaels’ production company, Broadway Video – also responsible for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and 30 rock – will collaborate with Universal Television alternative Studio to bring the show to life.
Davidson further praised British stand-up comedy, specifically mentioning Jimmy Carr and Jack Whitehall, stating, “I think anything that’s great over there, we just kind of steal… and it doesn’t seem like the other way around.” He views the UK SNL as a notable step in reversing that trend.
