Title: San Antonio Cellphone Ban: District Issues and Enforcement

by David Harrison – Chief Editor

San Antonio, TX – Initial reports indicate smooth implementation⁢ of Texas‘ ‌new statewide cellphone ban in classrooms, with most San Antonio-area school districts reporting minimal disruptions and high levels of student compliance. The ban, signed into law as House Bill 1481 in August, requires all Texas school systems to prohibit cellphone use during instructional time.

The new policy aims to minimize distractions and improve academic focus for ‌students across the state. While some districts are still finalizing details and responding to inquiries, early data suggests a largely positive transition. The Texas Education Agency is currently investigating‍ North East⁢ ISD‘s policy implementation following a recent discussion.

San Antonio ISD has recorded 40 incidents related to its Electronic Device Administration code, encompassing issues ⁢with all electronic devices, not ⁤solely cellphones. Southwest‍ ISD reported‌ 25 cellphone-related issues across six of its 19 ⁣campuses, but noted ⁣that the majority of students are adhering to the new rules.

KSAT is awaiting responses from Edgewood ISD, Southside ISD, and South San ISD regarding their implementation experiences. House Bill 1481 mandates a policy⁢ prohibiting cellphone use, leaving specific enforcement details to⁢ individual districts.
