Samsung Ends Support for ‍Popular Galaxy S20 FE, Raising Security Concerns

Seoul, ‍South Korea -⁣ Samsung will‍ discontinue security updates for⁤ the Galaxy S20 ‌FE smartphone after October 2025, leaving users vulnerable to ⁢potential security threats. The move marks the end of support for a device widely considered a gateway to Samsung’s premium smartphone experience, according to tech⁤ portal Chip.

Originally launched in October 2020, ⁤the‍ Galaxy S20 FE was promised five ⁢years of security updates and three major Android releases -‍ a‍ commitment Samsung fulfilled. While the final security update is scheduled for October 2025, the cessation of ⁤future updates introduces increasing risk⁢ as unpatched vulnerabilities accumulate. Samsung’s official support page⁣ currently lists the S20 FE as receiving quarterly updates, a designation expected to be removed shortly.

The end of⁤ support is significant as it impacts a device that resonated with consumers seeking a balance between flagship ‍features and affordability. Without ⁤ongoing security patches, the S20 FE becomes increasingly susceptible to malware and cyberattacks over time.

Samsung⁣ is addressing longevity concerns with its ⁤newer “Fan Edition” models. ‍The recently released Galaxy S25 FE benefits from a‌ new update policy guaranteeing seven years of security ⁢and Android⁢ updates, extending support through 2032. This contrasts with the shorter four-year ⁢lifecycle of the S21 FE, which⁤ is also nearing its end-of-support ⁣date.

The ‌ Fan Edition series has evolved since the original S20‍ FE, moving from a design mirroring the flagship S20 to a more modern aesthetic and ⁢extended software support. samsung is currently offering trade-in deals in some markets, allowing customers to exchange thier Galaxy S20 ‌FE for savings ⁣on the new Galaxy S25 FE.
