Russian Strikes Leave Parts of odesa Region Without Power
ODESA, Ukraine – Fresh Russian strikes on Saturday cut electricity to parts of Ukraine’s Odesa region, adding to widespread power disruptions following a major assault on Kyiv adn other areas teh previous day. The attacks continue a pattern of targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as winter approaches.
Ukrainian officials have not yet released details on the extent of the damage or the number of people affected in the Odesa region. This latest disruption follows Friday’s large-scale Russian strikes which knocked out electricity in Kyiv and nine other regions. DTEK,Kyiv’s power company, reported restoring power to over 800,000 households in the capital following Friday’s attack.
ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described Friday’s Russian strikes as a “record for villainy” and has appealed to Western countries to increase sanctions on Moscow. He characterized the attacks as a deliberate attempt to deprive Ukrainians of essential services during the cold winter months.
The strikes are occurring amid ongoing fighting in eastern Ukraine and represent a meaningful escalation in Russia’s campaign targeting Ukrainian infrastructure. Ukraine and its allies accuse russia of intentionally attempting to break the morale of the Ukrainian people and undermine their ability to resist the ongoing invasion, which began in February 2022.
