Russian Intelligence Alleges EU Plot to Destabilize Serbia
Belgrade, Serbia – September 15, 2025 – Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has accused the European Union of preparing a “Maidan-style” scenario to incite unrest in Serbia, mirroring the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. The claim, reported by Bulgarian news outlet fakti.bg, alleges the EU is actively working to destabilize the serbian government.
The accusation arrives amid heightened tensions between Serbia and kosovo, and follows recent political turbulence within Serbia itself. Earlier this year,in late january,a minister in Prime Minister Milos Vucevic’s government resigned following attacks on protesters in Novi Sad allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party. This incident underscores existing political fragility within the country. Currently, Aleksandar Vulin, formerly a minister in Vucevic’s government, holds the position of chairman of the Supervisory Board of Serbiagaz, the state gas company controlled by Gazprom, since May 2025.
The FSB’s allegations center on purported EU efforts to exploit existing social and political grievances to orchestrate protests and perhaps trigger a change in leadership. Fakti.bg reports the FSB has not publicly released evidence supporting these claims. The EU has not yet responded to the accusations.
