Queenstown, New Zealand – A second season of the Kiwi crime drama A Remarkable Place to Die has been greenlit, promising continued investment and employment opportunities for the queenstown/Tāhuna region. The proclamation was made during a visit by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to Remarkable Studio, where filming for the series takes place.
The renewal of the international co-production signifies more than just a continuation of a popular show; it represents a strategic effort to build a enduring screen industry in Queenstown, showcase New ZealandS culture globally, and foster local talent. The production is expected to deliver meaningful economic benefits through regional spending and job creation.
Screentime NZ, a part of Banijay, is producing A remarkable Place to Die.Philly de Lacey, head of Screentime NZ, was instrumental in establishing the new studio and developing the series with John Banas.Prime Minister Luxon specifically acknowledged de Lacey’s role, stating, “I want to say also thank you Philly for yoru drive because what we’re seeing here is a building of a screen sector down in Queenstown, and it’s happening on the back of you making this production a reality.”
De Lacey emphasized the broader impact of the series, noting, “This production showcases New Zealand’s stunning scenery, sense of humor, and vibrant character, bringing major investment in the local economy, through high regional spend and new employment opportunities.”
The series aims to successfully balance commercial viability with creative quality, allowing for continued production and global appeal. “To go out and sell products from New Zealand to the world in the way that you are, using incredibly talented, highly creative people is a really challenging thing,” Luxon added. “You’ve got to make things work commercially but you’ve got to make sure the product that you’re producing at the end is loved by customers,so you can do it all over again,and you are.”
Season 2 of A Remarkable Place to Die is slated to premiere in 2026. Banijay Rights will handle international sales.
