‘Rebuilding’ by Max Walker-Silverman
NEW YORK, NY – November 14, 2024 – Max Walker-Silverman’s deeply moving new film, Rebuilding, arrives in select theaters today, November 14th, with a nationwide rollout planned for November 21st. The film marks the second feature from the NYU Grad Film alumnus and is already garnering attention for its sensitive portrayal of loss and recovery.
Rebuilding offers a timely and resonant exploration of resilience in the face of disaster, a theme increasingly relevant as communities across the country grapple with the escalating impacts of wildfires and climate change. The film’s focus on rebuilding not just structures, but also fractured relationships, provides a powerful and hopeful message for audiences. Walker-Silverman’s work joins a growing body of independent cinema tackling complex emotional landscapes with nuance and grace.
The film centers on Dusty (Josh O’Connor), a divorced father who loses his ranch in a wildfire and finds himself navigating a new life in a government-run trailer community. There, he connects with fellow survivors and begins to mend fences with his ex-wife Ruby (Meghann Fahy) and daughter Callie-Rose (Lily LaTorre). Key crew members also include Grad Film alumni Alfonso Herrera Salcedo (Director of Photography), Ramzi Bashour (Editor), Jason Brownrigg (1st Assistant Camera), and Noam Argov (Casting assistance).
Filmed against the stunning scenery of southern Colorado, Rebuilding is described as a “gently humanist story of the American West” and a “ruminative, moving portrait of resilience and human connection.”
