former Netflix Executive Peter Friedlander Named Head of Global TV at amazon MGM Studios
CULVER CITY, CA – September 25, 2024 – Peter Friedlander, the former head of scripted U.S. and Canadian television at Netflix, is joining Amazon MGM Studios as its new head of global TV, the company announced today.Friedlander will oversee the studio’s original TV portfolio in the U.S., as well as global tentpole titles, MGM Television, and MGM Alternative.
The appointment fills a vacancy left by Vernon Sanders’ recent departure from Amazon MGM Studios. Friedlander brings a wealth of experience from his more than decade-long tenure at Netflix, where he played a pivotal role in developing and launching some of the streaming service’s most successful series.
During his four-plus years leading Netflix’s scripted series division, Friedlander oversaw shows including Wednesday, Bridgerton, Emily in Paris, Monster, Ozark, The Queen’s Gambit, Stranger Things, The Night Agent, 3 Body Problem, and Black Mirror. He initially joined Netflix in 2011 as the company’s first dedicated original series employee, contributing to early hits like House of cards and Orange Is The New Black.

Prior to Netflix, Friedlander was an executive at Playtone, the production company founded by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, where he produced the Emmy-nominated drama Big Love and worked as a creative executive on various feature films. He began his career working on film sets, including Road to Perdition and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Friedlander begins his new role on October 6.
