Romanian Senator Paul Pintea, Previously Convicted for Driving wiht a Suspended License, Caught Driving Illegally Again
zalău, Sălaj County – senator Paul Ciprian Pintea was apprehended by police driving a vehicle on public roads despite having a suspended license, Sălaj County police (IPJ Sălaj) announced. The incident occured after Pintea allegedly failed to comply with a stop signal issued by traffic police. A breathalyzer test administered at the scene yielded negative results for alcohol consumption.
This latest infraction comes just months after Pintea received a one-year and five-month suspended prison sentence on June 17th from the High Court of Cassation and Justice for a prior offense of driving with a suspended license. That sentence was a consolidation of a nine-month sentence for the driving offense and a one-year and two-month sentence received in March 2024 at the Zalău Court, also for the same crime.
Police have initiated a criminal case for driving with a suspended license, which will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and justice due to Pintea’s position as a senator. He was also penalized for disregarding the traffic police’s stop signal.
Pintea, initially elected to the Senate in December 2024 representing the Young People’s Party (POT) for Sălaj County, became an unaffiliated parliamentarian following the dissolution of the POT Senate group. The Sălaj County Institution of the PSD later announced that Pintea would support the party’s projects, despite not being a formal member.
The senator has also faced scrutiny for inaccuracies in his official biography. Investigations by Snoop.ro and HotNews revealed Pintea falsely claimed attendance at “Academic Singles” – a dating site – in his CV posted on the Senate website. He initially stated attending Mihai Viteazul High School in Zalău between 2000 and 2004, a period when he would have been 12 years old. Pintea later altered the dates in his CV to 2001-2005,claiming to have graduated with a baccalaureate diploma.
