Australian Paralympians Poised for Final medal Haul at World Para Athletics Championships
NEW DELHI, INDIA – October 5, 2025 – Australian wheelchair racing stars James langdon and Rheed McCracken are set to spearhead a final push for medals today at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India. Langdon, seeking his first major international gold, and McCracken, a seasoned campaigner aiming for a third medal of the championships, headline a strong Australian contingent competing in multiple finals.
Langdon expressed confidence heading into his event, stating, “It’s something that I have been working on for a long time. I always sort of just missed out on it, but it’s given me that confidence that I know I’m the fastest in the world.” He has previously secured silver at the 2023 World Championships in Paris and bronze at the 2024 Paralympics, with gold remaining the elusive prize. Alongside langdon,20-year-old Hincksman is considered a strong contender for a podium finish,boasting a personal best of 3:49.10 and a World Para Athletics Championships bronze medal.
McCracken will compete in the 800m T34 final after easily qualifying yesterday. The New South Wales athlete already holds silver medals in the 100m and 400m T34 events from this competition, and previously won bronze in the 800m at the Paris Paralympic Games. He is expected to challenge for another medal today.
Also vying for medals are teenager Telaya Blacksmith (T20 Long Jump), the national record holder at 5.50m, and a trio of Australians – briseis Brittain, Rhiannon Clarke, and Layla Sharp – in the 400m T38 final. Ella Hose (F37 Discus Throw) and Akeesha Snowden (T37 200m) will also compete in their respective finals.
The 2025 World Para Athletics Championships run from September 27 – October 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Australian viewers can watch live and free via the Paralympic games YouTube channel from 1:30pm AEST.
