Oscar Isaac Sets Condition for Return to ‘star ⁢Wars’: Disney Must Resist ‘Fascism’

LOS ANGELES – Actor Oscar Isaac has stated he would only reprise his role in the ‌ Star Wars franchise⁢ if Disney demonstrates a commitment to resisting “fascism.” The declaration comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Disney’s handling of comedian Jimmy kimmel’s suspension from ABC, and broader concerns about corporate influence on creative expression.

Isaac, who portrayed Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The⁣ Force Awakens (2015) and its two‍ sequels, joins ⁤a growing chorus of actors and creatives publicly criticizing Disney’s decision to⁤ temporarily suspend Kimmel after a joke aimed at former⁣ President Donald Trump. Trump‍ initially hailed Kimmel’s suspension⁣ as “great news for America,” and later lamented his reinstatement, calling ABC “a true bunch of losers!” isaac’s‌ statement underscores the escalating tension between artistic freedom and corporate responsiveness to political pressure.

The dispute began after Kimmel’s ⁢monologue, prompting a response from Federal Communications⁤ Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr, who questioned whether ABC affiliates faced pressure to pull Kimmel’s show. Carr is scheduled to testify before the Senate ⁣commerce committee in December regarding his actions, with committee ‍chair Senator Ted Cruz previously labeling Carr’s comments ⁣”dangerous as hell.”

Numerous ‍prominent figures, including Pedro ‍Pascal, Mark Ruffalo, and Olivia Rodrigo, have voiced support for Kimmel‍ and condemned Disney’s actions. Tatiana Maslany,‌ star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s She-Hulk, urged viewers to cancel subscriptions to Disney-owned streaming services like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. Damon Lindelof, creator ‌of Lost, stated ⁣he would not work with Disney+ again unless Kimmel was reinstated.

Following Kimmel’s suspension, Disney+ and‍ Hulu reportedly experienced a doubling in cancellation‍ rates,⁣ according to ‌reports. The New York Times reported the suspension was ‍ordered by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney’s head of television, Dana Walden.
