Ohio Dive Bars Nationally Recognized in USA Today Ranking
Cincinnati, OH – Two Ohio establishments-O’Malley’s in the Alley in Cincinnati and Threes Above High in Columbus-have been named among the best dive bars in America, according to a new list released by USA Today. The ranking, published earlier this month, spotlights 30 bars across the country celebrated for their unique character and community impact.
The recognition highlights the enduring appeal of these unpretentious gathering places, offering locals and visitors alike a taste of authentic Ohio nightlife. USA Today noted these bars “define their communities as much as they serve them,” a testament to their role as neighborhood fixtures. For O’Malley’s, a Cincinnati landmark as 1892, and Threes Above High, a popular haunt near Ohio State university, the accolade underscores their established reputations for good times and genuine atmosphere.
O’Malley’s in the Alley, located on West Ogden Place, is Cincinnati’s second-oldest bar. Its distinctive ambiance, described as featuring “battered woodwork, tin ceilings and Irish flags,” provides a backdrop for enjoying food, drinks-including a well-known burger-and local sports. The bar celebrated the honor on Facebook, inviting patrons to “Come see what all the fuss is about.”
Threes Above High, on North High Street in Columbus, is a favorite among Ohio State students. The bar expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition in an Instagram post, stating, “Guess giving people a place to be themselves and have a good time is a tougher ask than we imagined, but we clearly got that part figured out…cheers.” The post also acknowledged the staff and patrons for their continued support.
