Antonio Ferreira, Longtime Fall River Resident, Dies at 88
FALL RIVER, MA – Antonio Ferreira, a beloved figure in the Fall River community, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, at the age of 88. His death marks the end of a generation for a family deeply rooted in the city, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion to family.
Ferreira’s passing impacts a large and close-knit family, including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and also a wide circle of friends and acquaintances cultivated over decades in Fall River.His life story reflects the experiences of many Portuguese-American immigrants who built lives and families in the region, contributing significantly to the cultural fabric of the city.Funeral services will be held this weekend, offering an chance for the community to pay their respects.
Born in the Azores, Ferreira immigrated to the United States and established a life in Fall River, where he was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He is survived by his children, Olastica Saraiva (Tomas), Maria dos anjos de sousa (Carlos Alberto Vaquinha), Esmeralda Botelho (Luis Alberto), Zelia dos Anjos Azevedo, and Minerva Silveira (Joe), as well as Ana Isabel Abreu (Lou Couto) and Mike Ferreira (Kristin). He was the last of six siblings and leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
visitation will be held on friday, September 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, located at 730 Bedford St., Fall River. A Funeral will begin at the Silva-Faria Funeral Home at 8:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Espírito Santo Church at 9:00 AM. Committal and interment will take place at st. Patrick’s Cemetery, 2233 Robeson St., Fall River.
