Notepad Gets a Brain Boost: Microsoft Adds AI tools and Table Functionality
Seattle, WA - Microsoft is breathing new life into the ubiquitous windows Notepad, adding long-awaited features like table insertion and, more significantly, AI-powered writing assistance. The updates, currently rolling out to Windows Insiders, signal a shift for the traditionally bare-bones text editor, positioning it as a more versatile tool for everyday users.
For decades, Notepad has served as the go-to request for speedy notes and simple text files. Now, Microsoft aims to elevate its functionality without sacrificing the appS core simplicity.The addition of tables allows for basic data organization directly within Notepad, eliminating the need to switch to more complex programs for simple structuring. However, the real game-changer is the integration of AI features - Write, Rewrite, and Summarize - promising faster and more accurate results, displayed in real-time.
Version 11.2510.6.0 introduces these key additions, initially available to testers in the Canary and Dev channels. According to Winaero, the AI functions are designed to provide immediate feedback, allowing users to refine their writing as its generated.Currently,the AI rewriting capabilities are limited to PCs with Copilot Plus,and both the table function and AI tools remain under development.
Microsoft has not yet announced a timeline for the wider release of these features to all Windows users.
