Jets Legend Nick Mangold Announces Need for Kidney Transplant
Former New York Jets center Nick Mangold has publicly revealed he requires a kidney transplant, sharing his diagnosis and search for a donor. The announcement came via a post on social media, detailing a years-long battle with kidney disease and the increasing urgency for a transplant to maintain his quality of life.
mangold, a cornerstone of the Jets’ offensive line for 11 seasons, has been privately managing a genetic kidney condition, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). While initially stable, the condition has progressed, leading to kidney failure and the necessity of dialysis. He is now actively seeking a living donor to receive a transplant and resume a normal life.
the seven-time Pro Bowler and first-team all-Pro played his entire NFL career with the Jets, from 2007 to 2018. He was a key figure during successful Jets teams that reached back-to-back AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010. Mangold’s durability and leadership made him a fan favorite and a respected player around the league.
“it’s been a long road, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, and the entire Jets community,” Mangold stated in his social media post.”Now, I’m asking for help in finding a matching kidney donor. Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a donor can find information through the resources I’ve shared.”
Potential donors are encouraged to visit the National Kidney Foundation website or contact transplant centers for compatibility testing. The need for organ donors is critical, and Mangold’s public plea aims to raise awareness and perhaps save his life,as well as inspire others to consider donation.
