Mixco, Guatemala – November 30, 2025 – Authorities discovered a deceased woman and nine neglected dogs at a residence in Mixco after being initially blocked from entering the property by a male occupant.
The Mixco Municipal Prosecutor‘s Office responded to the location on Sunday, November 30, 2025, but were prevented from accessing the home. Prosecutors subsequently obtained a court order to enter the premises. Inside, they found the body of a woman, estimated to be approximately 57 years old, along with several medication bottles. Nine dogs of various breeds were also found living in unsanitary conditions.
The Mixco Municipal Pet Shelter removed the animals, which were described as malnourished, dehydrated, and exposed to accumulated waste. The dogs are now receiving veterinary care and will remain under observation at the shelter. The woman’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) for a medical-forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
The incident highlights concerns regarding animal welfare and the potential for vulnerable individuals to live in isolated, unsafe environments. The Municipal Pet Shelter shared images and videos of the rescue operation on social media,documenting the conditions in which the woman and animals were living.
