LUBBOCK, Texas – The Mississippi State women’s basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season wednesday, falling to texas Tech 69-62 despite a blazing start.
Mississippi State exploded for 31 points in the first quarter – their highest-scoring opening frame of the year and second-most points scored in any quarter this season – shooting 53% from the field. Though,the Bulldogs were unable to maintain that momentum.
Trayanna Crisp and Destiney McPhaul each led State with 12 points. Crisp went 2-for-4 from three-point range and made all six of her free throws, while McPhaul connected on two three-pointers and added four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block.
Madison Francis made her first career start, contributing 10 points and four rebounds. Favour Nwaedozi scored nine points with nine rebounds, and chandler Prater tallied six points and six rebounds. Kharyssa Richardson nearly achieved a double-double with nine rebounds.
Mississippi State will next compete in the Emerald Coast Classic in niceville, Florida. They will open the tournament Monday against alcorn State, followed by a game against either Middle Tennessee or Providence on Tuesday. The tournament will be streamed on FloSports.
