Mercedes-Benz Launches Extended-wheelbase Electric CLA L in China
Mercedes-Benz has begun sales of the all-electric CLA L in China, offering an extended wheelbase version of its compact sedan. The CLA L measures 4.76 meters in length with a 2.83-metre wheelbase – 40 millimeters longer than the standard model. This extended wheelbase provides increased rear passenger space, a feature previously reserved for Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class and higher-end sedans.
Two variants are currently available: the CLA 300 L Ultra-Long range Edition, priced at 259,000 yuan (approximately €31,000), and the CLA 300 L Ultra-Long Range Smart Edition, costing 299,000 yuan (around €35,700). Both models feature rear-wheel drive, a 200 kW motor, a two-speed transmission, and an 85 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery.Utilizing 800-volt technology, the battery supports charging speeds up too 320 kW.
Range estimates are 866 kilometers based on the Chinese CLTC cycle, and 792 kilometers when measured against the more stringent European WLTP standard.
A dual-motor, all-wheel drive version, the CLA 350 4MATIC (260 kW), is planned for release, though its Chinese name and pricing remain unconfirmed. The potential availability of a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery variant is currently unconfirmed and remains speculative.
The CLA L is built in china and utilizes the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. It also incorporates software developed by the Shanghai Research and advancement Center, offering features tailored to the Chinese market, including advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous driving capabilities.
For comparison, the electric CLA is priced around €60,000 in the European market, making the Chinese market offering significantly more affordable.
