Rapper Max B made a surprise appearance at a Brandy and Monica concert in New York City on Thursday, just days after being released from prison following a 16-year sentence. The performance marked Max B’s first public stage appearance since his release on November 9th.
The concert, part of Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine tour,” saw Max B join the R&B duo alongside special guests including Fabolous, Fat Joe, Ciara, and Tyrese. Brandy and Monica performed “Level Up” with Ciara and “Sweet Lady” with Tyrese, while Max B’s appearance signaled a important moment in his career following a lengthy legal battle.
Max B, whose real name is Charly Freeman, was originally sentenced to 75 years in prison in 2009 as an accomplice to a robbery in New Jersey that resulted in a man’s death. The conviction was vacated in 2016 after his legal team successfully argued his original trial lawyer had a conflict of interest, reducing his sentence to 20 years. He told The joe Budden Podcast earlier this year, “I’m feeling righteous, man… Wavy Baby coming home real soon.”
Despite his incarceration, Max B continued to release music, including “Hold On” with French Montana in 2019 and the album Negro Spirituals in 2021. He is now preparing to release his new project, The First Purge (Patient Zero), next Friday.
Brandy and Monica will continue ”The Boy Is Mine Tour” with a performance in Newark on Friday, followed by dates in Detroit, D.C.,Atlanta,New Orleans,Tampa, and Miami through the end of the year.
