Lions Bolster Bullpen with Vizcaya Acquisition, Aim for Role Readjustments
Caracas, Venezuela – The Leones de Caracas have acquired right-handed reliever Anthony Vizcaya from Magallanes in exchange for left-hander Yohander Méndez, a move the Lions’ front office believes will significantly strengthen their bullpen and allow for strategic role adjustments. vizcaya is the only pitcher in Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) history to win both the SetUp and Closer of the Year awards in his career.
The acquisition comes as the Lions currently possess the league’s worst earned run average in relief (6.41) entering the fourth week of the elimination round. Team officials hope Vizcaya’s addition will provide stability to a unit that has been heavily utilized, having already worked 78.2 innings – second most in the league behind caribes de anzoátegui (85.2). Conversely, Caracas starters have only pitched 44.0 innings, the second-lowest total in the LVBP, ahead of only the Tribe (38.1).
“In professional ball, the strength of the bullpen is vrey crucial to achieve victories,” stated Luis Sojo, Sports Manager for the Lions, to the club’s press department.”With the recent transaction we have taken a firm step to dramatically strengthen the final part of our games and we are extremely satisfied.”
Beyond Vizcaya, the Lions anticipate activating big league pitcher Carlos Hernandez and import Tyrone Yulie within the fourth week. Assistant to Sports Management, Regie Corona, emphasized the strategic benefit of the moves. “This movement not only adds quality, but also allows us to readjust roles,” Corona said. “With the arrival of these experienced pitchers, the rest of our relievers will be able to settle into their comfort zone.”
Méndez, simultaneously occurring, remains healthy and current with Magallanes, according to team sources.
