Lindenwood Women’s Soccer Secures Crucial Road Victory,1-0 Over Western Illinois
MACOMB,Ill. – The Lindenwood University women’s soccer team claimed a vital three points on Sunday afternoon, defeating Western Illinois 1-0. The win boosts Lindenwood’s record to 6-4-4 overall adn 3-2-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Western Illinois falls to 1-15-0 and 0-6-0 in conference play.
This result marks the first Lindenwood victory in Macomb, Illinois, and significantly impacts their standing in the OVC standings as they pursue a strong finish to the season. The Lions are now 4-1-2 on the road, achieving their most road wins in the program’s Division I era.The team will return home to face OVC leader Eastern Illinois in their final home game of the season on Thursday.
The decisive goal came in the 30th minute off a corner kick delivered by Tasneem Dizdarevic. The kick deflected off the Western Illinois goalkeeper, falling to Maddy Vasiloff, who scored with a right-footed shot. Lindenwood dominated possession and offensive opportunities, outshooting Western Illinois 19-3 and earning 12 corner kicks to the Leathernecks’ one. The Lions were also more disciplined, committing just two fouls compared to Western Illinois’ 12.
vasiloff’s goal was her second career goal, making her the ninth different Lindenwood player to find the back of the net this season. The shutout was the team’s eighth of the season, matching their regular season total from the previous year.
“Bottom line is we got the shutout and earned the three points on the road,” said Head Coach Dave Musso. “This group is working very hard and the goals will come.”
Lindenwood will host Eastern Illinois at Hunter Stadium on Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
