Seznam Revives Lidé.cz as Discussion-Focused Social Network
prague, Czech Republic – November 6, 2023 – Seznam, a Czech internet company, is relaunching the social network Lidé.cz on November 11, according too newly published terms and conditions. However, this iteration differs substantially from its original incarnation as a dating site. Instead, Lidé.cz will function as a social layer integrated with Seznam’s news pages, Medium blog, and partner sites, centering around discussions linked to articles and videos.
The platform will allow users to create profiles, post original content up to 1600 characters (supplemented with images), comment on articles, and respond to each other with emojis and replies. Users can follow or block each other, but direct messaging will not be available. Existing discussions from Seznam’s platforms will be automatically migrated to the new Lidé.cz.
Seznam emphasizes its intention to create “an environment where cultured debate, trusted content and safe interaction have their place.” According to Seznam, “Users will be able to write their own posts, comment on articles or respond to the opinions of others without fear. At the same time, Lidé.cz follows up on discussion posts from content websites of Seznam and external partners, and each conversation links to the original article or video, so that a source of details is always at hand.”
The company has also filed trademark applications for “L” and “Lidé.cz,” as well as the nickname “Lidéčko,” used during the network’s initial run in the early 2000s.
lidé.cz was originally shut down five years ago, but Seznam began preparations for its revival in the spring of 2023.
