Las Vegas, NV – The Southern Nevada health District (SNHD) currently does not have the updated COVID-19 vaccine available at its clinics, but continues too offer the previous formulation to those eligible, according to a statement released today by District Health Officer Dr. Cassius lockett. residents seeking the latest booster are advised to check for updates as the SNHD anticipates receiving the new vaccine and will promptly announce its availability alongside eligibility criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and PreventionS (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
The delay in receiving the updated vaccine comes as health officials emphasize the importance of continued COVID-19 vaccination, particularly for vulnerable populations. Current CDC guidelines recommend waiting at least two months between any COVID-19 booster doses. This announcement impacts individuals seeking to maintain optimal protection against evolving variants, especially seniors and those with underlying health conditions who face a higher risk of severe illness. The SNHD remains dedicated to providing COVID-19 vaccines to all eligible adults, including those 65 and older and individuals with health conditions increasing their risk.
Dr. Lockett underscored the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines as the primary defense against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. “COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and the best way to protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death,” he stated.
In addition to vaccination, the SNHD encourages residents to receive a seasonal flu vaccine, practice frequent handwashing, and remain home when experiencing illness. These combined preventative measures are crucial in minimizing the spread of respiratory illnesses and safeguarding the health of the community’s most vulnerable members.
