Lara Gutová-Behramiová Suffers Injury During US Training, Future Uncertain
COPPER MOUNTAIN, USA – Swiss ski star Lara Gutová-Behramiová sustained an injury during super-G training in Copper Mountain, Colorado, raising concerns about her participation in the upcoming World Cup season and possibly her career. The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but it occurred during a fall, prompting speculation about a possible season-ending setback.
Gutová-Behramiová, one of the most decorated alpine skiers of her generation, boasts 48 World Cup victories – second only to compatriot Vreni Schneiderová’s 55.She has also secured nine World Cup medals (2 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze) and seven crystal globes, demonstrating consistent dominance across multiple disciplines. Notably, she holds a record six globes in super-G, a discipline where her reign was only broken by Federica Brignone in recent seasons.
The injury casts a shadow over preparations for the 2023/2024 World Cup season, where Gutová-behramiová had a strong start with a third-place finish in the giant slalom in Sölden, behind Austria’s Julia Scheibová and the USA’s Paula moltzanová.
This isn’t the first meaningful injury for the 26-year-old. In 2017, she tore her anterior cruciate ligament during the World Championships in St. Moritz, a setback she navigated by focusing on personal pursuits. “The last time I had this much time for myself was when I was a child,” she reflected at the time, adding, “I realized that I am 26 years old and I have become a woman.” She has previously expressed a desire to start a family and had considered finishing her career after the Olympic season, prioritizing the support of her friends.
A year ago, Gutová-Behramiová told Schweizer Illustrierte she didn’t want an injury to end her career, but the fall in Colorado now presents that possibility. Several teams, including the Swiss, are currently training in Copper Mountain for the start of the speed disciplines, but Gutová-Behramiová will be absent, along with Federica Brignone and Marta Bassinová.
