Rubio, Witkoff to Host Ukrainian Delegation as kyiv Recovers from Overnight Drone Strikes
WASHINGTON – senators marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff will host a delegation from Ukraine in the United States on Sunday, as Kyiv authorities report two deaths and thirteen injuries following a night of intense Russian drone attacks. The delegation’s visit comes amid ongoing conflict and as Ukrainian officials assess damage from the latest assault.
Throughout the night of Friday into Saturday, Kyiv and its suburbs were targeted by what authorities are calling a “cynical terrorist attack” utilizing drones. The Kyiv military administration reported two fatalities, including a child, and thirteen injuries. Earlier reports from Mayor Vitali Klitschko indicated fifteen injuries, with eight requiring hospitalization.
The attacks struck nine locations across five kyiv neighborhoods, damaging residential buildings – including a 25-story and a 14-story structure – as well as private homes and vehicles. As of Saturday morning, the Kyiv military administration warned residents that “the threat persists” and urged them to “stay in the shelters.” A prior alert warned of a potential ballistic missile attack launched from a Russian Mig-31 aircraft, prompting loud explosions heard by Agence France-Presse journalists.
Power outages were reported in the west of the capital, with the city having been under air alert for over eight hours, according to Tymur Tkatchenko, head of the Kyiv military administration.
