Australian Para-Cyclist Korey Boddington Crowned 2025 Cyclist of the Year
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – December 4, 2025 – Korey Boddington has been named the 2025 Australian Cyclist of the Year, following a gold medal-winning performance in the Mixed C1-5 750m Team Sprint at the 2025 UCI Para-Cycling Track World championships in rio de Janeiro. The prestigious Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy was awarded to Boddington at AusCycling’s annual awards ceremony held on Wednesday,marking a significant achievement for the athlete and Australian Para-cycling.
Boddington’s victory underscores the growing strength of Australian Para-cycling, with a second Australian Para-cyclist claiming the coveted Oppy award in the last three years. AusCycling’s National Performance Manager, Jesse Fechner, highlighted the significance of this success, stating, “For two Para-cyclists to win the Oppy in the last three years reflects the strength and depth of Australian Para-cycling. It’s a testament to the world-leading staff and systems we have in place to support our athletes.”
The Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy, first presented to Russell Mockridge in 1958, recognizes the nation’s top cyclist across all disciplines. Boddington shared the Track Para-athlete of the Year award with Victorian rising star Tahlia Clayton-Goodie, while also receiving the Male award on the Track. Paralympic medallists Darren Hicks and Lauren Parker were similarly honored as Road Para-Cycling Athletes of the Year for their achievements on the international circuit.
This year’s auscycling Awards marked the first in-person ceremony since the organization’s formation in 2020,and also saw 12 longstanding contributors to cycling inducted into the AusCycling Hall of Fame,including veteran race promoters John Trevorrow and Phill Bates.
