Kashmir: Police Intensify Raids and Arrests Following Delhi Car Bombing
Srinagar, Kashmir – Authorities in Kashmir have considerably increased police raids and arrests across the region following a car bombing in Delhi. The blast, which occurred earlier this week, has led to an inquiry focusing on a suspected “terror module.”
Investigators allege the vehicle used in the Delhi bombing was driven by a doctor from the village of Koil, located 20 miles south of Srinagar. Another doctor from Koil, arrested the previous day, also worked at the same medical college in Faridabad.
Residents of Koil described both men as academically accomplished and expressed shock at the allegations. Families of the two doctors stated they were not acquainted.
Shortly after the blast, police searched the home of the alleged driver, confiscating mobile phones and detaining family members for questioning. On friday morning, authorities demolished the doctor’s home, a tactic known as “bulldozer justice” – a controversial and legally questionable practice employed by Indian authorities against those accused of crimes against the state.
Kashmir police report that seven individuals previously arrested in connection with the case had alleged links to both Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind,an Islamic State affiliate operating in Kashmir. This claim has not been independently verified.
The Indian government’s response to the Delhi blast has been notably measured, contrasting with it’s reaction to a previous terror attack in April where over 20 Hindu tourists were killed in Pahalgam, kashmir. Following that incident, India blamed Pakistan and launched cross-border drone and missile strikes, prompting retaliatory action from Pakistan and bringing the two countries to the brink of war.
After the April attack, India warned that further Pakistani-sponsored terror attacks would be considered an “act of war.” The more restrained response this week is interpreted by some as reflecting uncertainty regarding the perpetrators of the latest attack and the broader alleged plot.
Kashmir police stated they are “on high alert to prevent further incidents,” with multiple agencies conducting raids to disrupt terrorist activities. A senior officer confirmed the investigation is ongoing and that all suspicious activity is being closely monitored.
