TOPEKA, kan. (WIBW) – Drivers preparing for Thanksgiving travel will find gas prices are largely stable, offering a small reprieve as millions plan to hit the road.
The national average price for a gallon of unleaded fuel was $3.05 as of Tuesday morning, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). This represents a decrease of two cents from $3.07 a week ago, and holds steady compared to both last week and this time last year.
Kansas drivers are seeing even lower prices, with an average of $2.69 per gallon for unleaded fuel on Tuesday. This is down two cents from last week, four cents from last month, and one cent from a year ago.
However, the cost of diesel is on the rise. The national average is $3.78 a gallon, up one cent from last week, 13 cents from a month ago, and 25 cents compared to the same time in 2023.
In Topeka, unleaded gas prices ranged from $2.79 to $3.37 a gallon Tuesday morning, while diesel fuel was available between $3.29 and $3.80 a gallon.
