Josh Brolin Says He’s “Not Scared of Trump,” Reveals Past Friendship & Marketing “Genius”
LOS ANGELES, CA – Actor Josh Brolin publicly addressed his former friendship with donald Trump, asserting he isn’t intimidated by the former president adn characterizing Trump as a marketing “genius” who exploits societal vulnerabilities. The comments came during a recent interview with The Self-reliant, published November 29, while discussing Brolin’s new film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Brolin and Trump initially connected during the 2010 production of Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, where Brolin played a hedge fund manager and Trump had a cameo role that was ultimately cut from the final film. At the time, Brolin knew Trump as a New York City real estate developer, acknowledging “a lot of corruption” was likely involved but also expressing admiration for Trump’s ability to build a $400 million hotel “in the middle of a cesspool city during the late ’70s.”
The actor dismissed suggestions that his character in Wake Up Dead man, Monsignor Wicks, a manipulative religious leader, was inspired by trump, stating, “I could make something up and say it was rooted in a kind of Trumpian greed.” He then added,”I’m not scared of Trump, because even though he says he’s staying forever,it’s just not going to happen. And if it does, then I’ll deal with that moment. But having been a friend of Trump before he was president, I know a different guy.”
Brolin further elaborated on Trump’s appeal, stating, “There is no greater genius than him in marketing - he takes the weakness of the general population and fills it.And that’s why I think a lot of people feel that they have a mascot in him. I think it’s much less about Trump than it is about the general population and their need for validation.”
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out mystery is currently in select theaters and will stream on netflix beginning December 12.
