ITTF Recognized as Finalist for 2025 IOC Climate Action awards
LAUSANNE,Switzerland – The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has been named a finalist for the 2025 IOC Climate Action Awards,recognizing its innovative Sustainability Education Platform. The announcement underscores a growing emphasis on environmental duty within international sports federations and positions the ITTF among leaders in driving climate solutions.
The ITTF’s nomination centers on the platform’s ability to foster behavioral change and prioritize sustainability within the organization’s governance structure. Launched recently, the platform quickly gained traction, attracting 146 participants from 56 countries within three weeks. Prosperous completion of the program results in an official ITTF sustainability certificate, signifying a commitment to environmental action. This initiative arrives as the impacts of climate change increasingly affect global sporting events, including the upcoming milano Cortina 2026 Olympic winter Games.
“As the impacts of climate change touch every corner of the world, sport has a unique power to inspire collaboration and mobilize action,” said Marie Sallois, the IOC’s Corporate and Sustainable Development Director. “The quality of this year’s projects truly reflects our commitment to creating a more sustainable future – not only for sport, but for society as a whole.”
The ITTF is joined on the shortlist by the International Biathlon Union, International Ski and Snowboard Federation, World Sailing, and World Triathlon. The IOC Climate Action Awards also recognize five olympic and Paralympic athletes and five National Olympic Committees for their environmental initiatives.
The awards acknowledge projects that reduce sport’s environmental footprint and promote broader participation in climate solutions. Winners will be announced at a later date.
