Syrian coast on High Alert Following Israeli Strikes, Russian & Turkish Air Activity
Latakia, Syria – The Syrian coast experienced a night of heightened military activity on Monday, marked by Israeli airstrikes targeting sites in Latakia, Homs, and Diabmar, alongside unusual Russian and Turkish air movements. Reports indicate important Syrian military repositioning in response to the attacks, fueling anxieties among residents.
According to sources, the Israeli raids caused extensive damage to the targeted sites, with unconfirmed reports of casualties among military personnel present. Following the strikes, Israeli aircraft reportedly remained in Syrian airspace, conducting maneuvers that included breaking the sound barrier over Damascus, triggering widespread panic.
Adding to the complex situation, Russian warplanes from the Hmeimim base were observed violating the sound barrier over the Syrian coast – a rare occurrence in recent months. This activity coincided with the Israeli bombing of the “saqoubin” site. Simultaneously, Turkish warplanes patrolled the Syrian border from the northwest, but did not intervene to prevent the Israeli raids.
The attacks prompted a visible response from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, with reports of a military convoy evacuating positions near the marine college and moving towards the Jableh Highway, fearing further Israeli strikes. Camps in southern Tartous Governorate were also reportedly emptied following the attack on Saqoubin.
In the days leading up to the strikes, the Syrian coast had seen an influx of military convoys, especially concentrated in Qirdahah, Jableh, and South Tartous, with some units deployed to the “Judaism” barracks in Latakia – a former air defense site. Forces from allied factions were stationed near the village of al-Hanadi, near the entrance to Latakia, with increased security measures in place. Local residents have been advised to remain home unless absolutely necessary, reflecting the elevated tension in the region.
The events raise questions about the evolving dynamics of influence in Syria, with Israel continuing its strikes against perceived threats, russia maintaining a military presence, and Turkey asserting control along the border.
