PSSI Prioritizes Coach Character ⁤and Player Growth Over Tactical Preference

Jakarta, Indonesia – october 24, 2025 -‌ The search for a ⁣new head‍ coach for the Indonesian ‍national team will‍ prioritize candidates who ⁢embody Indonesian identity and⁣ possess a keen ability to develop player potential, according to PSSI Technical‌ Director, Frank Zwiers. The proclamation was ⁣made at Bung Karno Main ⁣Stadium, Senayan, today.

Zwiers⁣ emphasized that while tactical formations are vital, they are secondary⁤ to finding ‌a coach who connects with the‍ Indonesian fanbase and can maximize the existing talent pool. “The ⁢most important thing for us is to look for profiles ‌that are in line with our vision and‌ identity,” Zwiers stated. “Then the figure⁣ must be able to connect‌ with Indonesian identity, ⁣with the fanbase. We want to ‌see ⁢passion, character, we want to see intensity.”

The PSSI is seeking a coach capable of short-term success while also building ‍a⁤ foundation ‍for long-term growth, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for‌ future FIFA World Cups. Zwiers clarified that ⁢the⁣ search is not limited by geographical boundaries, with potential candidates being considered from ⁣both Europe and Asia. “The profile ‍we are ⁣looking for is free from⁣ the aspect of nationalism, we only want to ⁣find ⁢the one that is most ⁤suitable for Indonesia,” he said.

Zwiers further explained the importance of a coach who can identify ⁢and nurture⁢ the strengths of individual ⁤players. “Formation is secondary. The most critically important thing is that they must be able to ‌recognize the quality ‌of the players, areas that can ⁤be developed, and where our benchmarks are, that’s the most important thing,” he added.
