Iman, 70, dazzles at American Ballet Theater Gala Amid Misty Copeland‘s Farewell
NEW YORK – Iman commanded attention at Wednesday evening’s American Ballet Theater Fall Gala in New York City, turning heads in a diamond-adorned gown as she arrived alongside fashion designer Nardos Imam. The appearance by the celebrated model, who recently celebrated her 70th birthday, provided a striking moment at an event otherwise focused on honoring retiring principal dancer Misty Copeland.
The gala marked a significant occasion for the ABT, celebrating Copeland’s final performance after a groundbreaking career as the company’s first African-American principal dancer. Attendees included Oprah Winfrey, Zac Posen, Gayle King, Marisa Tomei, and marc Jacobs, all gathered to pay tribute to Copeland’s legacy. Yet, Iman’s presence-a comparatively rare sighting on the red carpet-proved equally captivating.
Iman wore a design by Imam, posing confidently for photographers before taking her seat in David Geffen Hall. Despite limiting public appearances, the former Yves Saint Laurent muse remains actively involved in the fashion world, recently attending Milan Fashion Week’s Tod’s show in late September.
her work extends beyond the runway; Iman continues to champion the legacy of her late husband, David Bowie, who passed away nine years ago. She recently highlighted a new interactive exhibit at the David Bowie Center at the V&A East Storehouse in London, designed to test fans’ knowledge of the iconic artist.
Additionally, Iman is collaborating with Tod’s on a collection benefiting the RED association, a cause she has long supported in its fight against AIDS. Balancing her professional pursuits with family life, Iman is also a dedicated mother to her 25-year-old daughter, Lexi Bowie, a burgeoning artist and songwriter following in her father’s creative footsteps.
