Hytale too Launch in Early Access for $20, Developer Takes Personal financial Risk
Hypixel Studio’s Hytale, the sandbox game initially canceled after a decade in development, is set to enter early access with a price tag of $20. This proclamation comes after Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme repurchased the rights to Hytale from Riot Games and revived the company. More expensive editions with cosmetic perks will also be available to support the development team.
collins-Laflamme stated he is “pricing Hytale as aggressively low as possible,” acknowledging the considerable personal financial risk he’s undertaking after funding both the repurchase and ongoing development of the game, which currently runs on a four-year-old build. He currently employs a team of 50 individuals. “I’m taking on a considerable personal risk… Charging more didn’t feel right. I don’t think the game is good yet,” Collins-Laflamme wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The decision to price the game so low reflects a desire to attract a broad player base, even amidst economic challenges. Collins-Laflamme emphasized his commitment to delivering on his promise to revive Hytale, stating, “I said I was all in, and I am delivering on that promise.”
Alongside the pricing announcement, Hypixel released details regarding the progress of Hytale’s modding feature, noting significant work remains. While a firm release date for early access remains unconfirmed, Collins-Laflamme has indicated it will begin “relatively soon.”
