WASHINGTON (November 8, 2025) – The Howard University women’s basketball team emphatically started its season, defeating Florida A&M University (FAMU) 89-53 in a nonconference matchup at The Burr. the victory moves the Bison to 2-0 on the year,signaling a strong start under their coaching staff and building momentum for a challenging schedule ahead.
Howard’s dominant performance showcased balanced scoring and a commanding presence on the boards, out-rebounding FAMU 56-38. This win isn’t just about adding a tally to the win column; it establishes Howard as a force in the region and provides valuable experience for a roster featuring both seasoned veterans and promising newcomers. The team’s next contest against George Washington University will test their early success against another local rival.
Redshirt junior Zoe Stewart led all Howard scorers wiht 15 points, efficiently shooting 6-of-8 from the field. Destiny Bynum-Johnson added 11 points and six rebounds,while Emma Nuquay and Rayne Durant each contributed 10 points off the bench,demonstrating the team’s depth. Nile Miller anchored the rebounding effort with 12 boards.
The Bison shot 46% from the field (32-of-70) and recorded 18 assists on their 32 made baskets. Howard’s defense stifled FAMU, holding them to under 30% shooting (20-of-67) and capitalizing on 23 Rattler turnovers.
Niah Rhodes paced FAMU with 16 points, and Aina Subirats chipped in 12 points from the bench.
