Green Bay, Wis. – The Green Bay phoenix women’s soccer team clinched a vital Horizon League victory, defeating Wright state 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Aldo Santaga stadium. Ruby dunlevy scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute, securing three points for Green Bay in the conference standings.
The win boosts Green Bay’s position in the Horizon League table as thay pursue a playoff berth. Wright state pushed for an equalizer,nearly succeeding in the 76th minute when Mariela Hartmann’s shot hit the crossbar,but Green Bay’s defense held firm. This result is particularly important as the Phoenix continue their homestand, aiming too build momentum against upcoming opponents.
Dunlevy’s goal was assisted by Samara Nunn and Amber Branum. Green Bay dominated possession and offensive opportunities, outshooting Wright State 12-6 wiht a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Laney Stark led the Phoenix attack with four shots, all on target. Goalkeeper Anna Scott recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Senah Hanes continues to lead the team in goals, with four on the season.
Green Bay will remain at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Sunday to face IU Indianapolis, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. IU Indy currently holds seventh place in the HL standings with seven points.
