GREEN BAY, Wis. – Teh Green Bay Phoenix women’s soccer team will compete for its first Horizon League Championship title tomorrow,facing the Milwaukee Panthers at Engelmann Stadium at 1 p.m. CST. This marks the programme’s inaugural appearance in the league championship game.
Green Bay advanced to the championship following a 2-1 victory over Northern Kentucky yesterday,propelled by a two-goal performance from Laney Stark. A win against Milwaukee would secure the Phoenix an NCAA Tournament berth - a first in program history.
Milwaukee enters the contest as the No. 1 seed and boasts a dominant history in the Horizon League, having won the last seven conference titles. the Panthers hold a 35-7-2 all-time record against Green Bay, including a 5-0 advantage in Horizon and Midwestern Collegiate Conference tournament play. The teams recently met on October 29, with Milwaukee winning 3-2 after scoring the first three goals of the match. Green Bay’s last win against Milwaukee was on October 8, 2014, a 2-0 victory at home.
The Phoenix have surged recently, posting a 5-1 record in their last six games, outscoring opponents 11-6.Their only loss during this stretch came at Milwaukee on October 29.
