‘Ghost of Yotei‘ Expansion Possible Following Blockbuster Launch
Sucker Punch Productions is considering additional content for its recently released PlayStation 5 exclusive, ’Ghost of Yotei,’ following a remarkably successful launch. The game, the biggest first-party PlayStation release since ‘Spider-Man 2’ in October 2023, has sparked discussions about potential downloadable content (DLC) and a possible continuation of its narrative.
‘Ghost of yotei’ has already exceeded expectations, though ‘Helldivers 2′ remains PlayStation Studios’ fastest-selling title, moving over 12 million copies in twelve weeks. The studio is now gauging player response to determine if further development is warranted. Co-director Jason Connell told Game Informer that the team is focused on understanding “what touches people, what they are curious about, and what they might still want to know about Atsu.”
Connell pointed to the Iki Island expansion for ‘Ghost of Tsushima‘ – inspired by fan interest in Jin’s father – as a potential model. “if ther is room to deepen the story or to bring more clarity, we will certainly look closely at that,” he stated.
While Sucker Punch indicates Atsu’s core story is largely complete, they haven’t dismissed the possibility of expanding upon it. The game quickly established itself as one of 2025’s highest-rated PlayStation exclusives, alongside ‘Death Stranding 2’ and ‘Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33.’ ‘ghost of Tsushima’ ultimately sold over 13 million copies, a benchmark that adds pressure for a strong long-term performance from ‘Ghost of Yotei.’ Many fans are hoping the studio will revisit the Edo period for a future adventure.
