Small Businesses face Support Cliff as Microsoft Ends Office support
Berlin – A new study reveals that 77 percent of small German businesses-those with 10 to 49 employees-are now operating with unsupported Microsoft Office software, leaving them vulnerable to security risks and operational disruptions. The findings, released by Intra2net, highlight a growing problem for companies that have not migrated to modern solutions like Microsoft 365 or hosted Exchange environments.
The analysis, conducted in September 2025,evaluated data from 1,567 PC workstations across 104 German companies. Crucially, the study focused solely on businesses that had not yet adopted cloud-based alternatives. With Microsoft ending support for older Office versions, these firms are increasingly exposed to potential cyberattacks, data loss, and compatibility issues as software flaws go unpatched and critical updates cease. This situation poses a significant challenge for a sector vital to the german economy, potentially impacting productivity and competitiveness.
