First Look ⁣at Cancelled Rare Game everwild Surfaces Online

New screenshots from Rare’s cancelled project,Everwild, have appeared via teh online portfolio of‌ an artist who contributed to the game’s‍ growth. The images⁢ offer a first glimpse at in-game UI elements and environments from the ambitious title, which was ultimately shelved earlier this year following layoffs at Microsoft.

Originally unveiled ⁣in 2019, Everwild captivated‌ audiences with its vibrant aesthetic and unique creature designs. Two trailers ⁤showcased the game’s⁤ world and hinted at ‌gameplay centered around “Eternals” interacting ⁣with fantastical beings. Despite⁣ the initial excitement, the exact nature of gameplay remained unclear before Microsoft announced the project’s cancellation in early 2023.

The newly released screenshots,⁣ first reported by mp1st, depict the game’s inventory menu, categorizing items into sections like “Favourites,” “Figments,” “Tools,” “Mosaics,” “seeds,” and “Plants.” ‌”figments” appear to be small, plant-like creatures. Accompanying the ⁣menu is a view of the player character near a stone circle, suggesting potential ⁤farming or base-building mechanics, though their role within the larger game remains unknown. Additional images reveal graphical settings and stylized, albeit blurry, ‌environmental‍ views.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer acknowledged the game’s development in February 2023, stating, “It has been [a while],⁣ and we’ve been able to give those teams time in what they’re doing which is good and still have a ⁤portfolio like we have.” He‌ further expressed a long-held ambition with Rare’s ⁤studio head Matt Booty to provide development⁤ teams with the necessary time to realize their visions.

Everwild‘s cancellation marks the second recent high-profile project from Rare to be abandoned, following the shelving of the Perfect Dark reboot. Rare is currently focused on its ongoing live-service title,Sea of Thieves.
