Jakarta, Indonesia – Google is displaying alerts for “Excessive Heat,” prompting users to take precautions against dangerously high temperatures.The alerts, appearing today, October 14, 2023, are intended to inform users about periods of intense heat and provide guidance on mitigating health risks.
The warnings come as many regions experience unusually warm weather, raising concerns about heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. Google’s alerts are designed to be informational, supplementing official forecasts and providing quick access to safety tips from the Global Heat Health Data Network.While the alerts are approximate, they underscore the growing importance of awareness surrounding extreme heat events.
Google recommends the following to anticipate the risks of excessive heat:
* Drink approximately 1 glass of water per hour, and at least 2-3 liters per day.
* Cool the skin using damp cloths, water spray, or wet clothing.
* Use fans when air temperature is below 40 degrees Celsius, but avoid them when temperatures exceed that threshold as they can raise body temperature.
* Set air conditioning thermostats to 27 degrees Celsius with the fan on to create a cooler room temperature.
