Elderly Woman Dies after Hit-and-Run in Fazakerley – Driver Sought by Police
Liverpool, December 6, 2023 – An 81-year-old woman has died after being struck by a dark-coloured vehicle in a hit-and-run incident on Longmoor Lane, fazakerley, on Friday, December 5th. Emergency services were called to the scene, near the junction with Third Avenue, at approximately 4:15pm.
The woman, a local resident, had reportedly gone to a nearby shop when the collision occurred. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to Aintree Hospital, were she sadly died shortly after arrival.
Police are currently searching for the vehicle and its driver, who failed to stop at the scene. Officers are reviewing local CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the car,which is expected to show signs of damage.
Superintendent Siobhan Russell appealed to the public for assistance, stating: “I would appeal to anyone who may have any facts to come forward. The 81-year-old victim had only popped out to shops and now her family are trying to come to terms with her loss. Specialist officers are providing them with support at this tragic time.”
she continued, urging the driver to “search their conscience and come forward,” and requested anyone with information to assist in identifying them. “We also wont to find the car which may have sustained damage as a result of the collision and may have been parked up or even abandoned.”
Several witnesses are assisting police with their inquiries, and house-to-house searches are underway. Longmoor Lane remains cordoned off for forensic examination, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
