EFF Hosts Discussion on Tech Monopolies, Data Privacy with Members
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) recently hosted its annual Global Members’ Speakeasy, focusing on the pervasive issue of data collection and the power of tech monopolies. The discussion featured EFF Associate Director of Community Organizing, Cindy cohn; EFF Staff Technologist, Mitch Stoltz; EFF IP Litigation Director, Lena Cohen; and Yael Grauer, Program Manager at Consumer Reports. Participants unpacked how a small number of tech companies have come to dominate the digital landscape, the resulting privacy concerns, and the real-world consequences of constant data collection.
Members engaged in a Q&A session, exploring practical methods for opting out of data collection, evaluating the effectiveness of privacy laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and sharing tools to enhance data privacy.
The full conversation is now available to the public on YouTube and the Internet Archive.
