New Release: “Dreams of Another” delivers Surreal, Unpredictable Exploration on PS5 and PC
Q-Games‘ newly released title, Dreams of Another, defies easy categorization, offering players a uniquely dreamlike experience characterized by disjointed acts, hazy landscapes, and abrupt scene transitions. The game centers around a pajama-clad protagonist known only as the Man in Pajamas, who wields a gun gifted by the Wandering Soldier-a weapon that “creates” rather than destroys.
Dreams of Another is described by its developers as a “third-person exploration-action game,” but functions more as a series of vignettes. Players encounter environments fragmented into colorful pieces, which solidify into objects-benches, trees, buildings, people, shipwrecks-when shot with the Man in Pajamas’ gun. These creations remain visibly constructed from lose pieces, lending to the game’s unstable atmosphere.
The game features conversations with a variety of characters, including the Wandering Soldier, a clown who builds a statue from divorce rings, and even inanimate objects contemplating existence. Dialog is frequently enough halting and unconventional; one instance cited involves an old lady stating a photograph would “make a nice funeral portrait for him” after taking a picture of her husband. Each scene typically lasts only a few minutes before dissolving into white and transporting the player to a new location, or back to the main menu depicting the Man in Pajamas asleep.
With a six-hour playthrough, the game prioritizes exploration of themes like art, consciousness, and human nature over traditional “fun” or narrative coherence. Dreams of Another is currently available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
