DETROIT,MI – Chicago State University’s men’s and women’s golf teams demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit this weekend at teh Motor City Matchup,facing strong opposition from Central Michigan and Detroit Mercy. The Cougars showcased growth in the match-play format, emphasizing mental fortitude and consistency under pressure.
The weekend saw several Cougars contribute key results. jayden brar and Jeffrey Sager each tied their individual contests against Central Michigan, earning half a point for the team. kaleb Lambert, Sahil Nathu, and Aarush Bhanot gained valuable experience in their head-to-head matches against the Chippewas. On the women’s side, Hannah Butzer secured a 2-up victory over Morgan Jones of Detroit Mercy, adding another point to the Cougars’ tally. Maria Quintero also halved her match against Taylor Kondel, while Almudena Aguera and Begona Perez engaged in closely contested battles. Gia Lamba remained competitive despite a 4 & 3 result against Peyton Lawley.
Mason Brar highlighted the men’s competition with a dominant 6 & 5 win over Mason Sokolowski, continuing his strong fall performance. Mason Fears narrowly lost his match 2-up to Spencer shearer, and Theo Hustler and Sahil Nathu faced challenging matchups against Detroit Mercy’s top players.
The match-play format provided a valuable possibility for the Chicago state programs to develop their competitive edge, preparing them for future challenges in the season. the team will continue to build on this momentum as they move forward in their fall schedule.
