Theatre Community Celebrates Achievements: FastHorse Honored,New York Landmarks recognize Broadway Producers & Actors
New York,NY – The new york Landmarks Conservancy will honor theatre producers Bonnie Comley and Stewart F. Lane, playwright and screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan, actor Mark Ruffalo, and producers Cynthia Wainwright and Stephen Berger at its annual Living Landmarks festivity at the Plaza Hotel. Simultaneously, playwright and choreographer larissa FastHorse is receiving notable recognition, including Brandeis university’s 2025 creative Arts Award and a 2025 Guggenheim Fellowship, following a 2020 MacArthur Fellowship.
FastHorse, a member of the Sicangu Lakota Nation and co-founder of Indigenous direction, will be presented with the Brandeis award in November, coinciding with the university’s theatre department’s production of her play The Thanksgiving Play on november 21. This recognition follows a landmark 2022-23 Broadway debut for FastHorse,making her the first known female Native American playwright produced on Broadway. The Thanksgiving Play was also one of the most-produced plays in America during the 2023-24 season. Currently, Seattle Rep and seattle Children’s Theatre are premiering her new autobiographical solo play, Fancy dancer. These accolades highlight a surge of recognition for FastHorse and Indigenous voices within the American theatre landscape.
