Celtic are considering Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy as a potential replacement for Brendan Rodgers, according to Sky Sports News. The Scottish club are evaluating options as they seek a permanent manager following Rodgers’ return to Leicester City in June.
The search comes at a critical juncture for Celtic, who aim to maintain their dominance in Scottish football and compete effectively in European competitions. Nancy has garnered attention for his tactical approach and success with the crew, making him a compelling candidate for one of the most prestigious managerial positions in Scotland.
Ipswich Town manager McKenna is among the contenders but has stated his current focus remains with Ipswich, and he has received no approach from Celtic. “It’s not somthing I’ve given any thought to,” McKenna said last month. “I know I’ve got a really special job here at a special and massive football club and one I have a great affinity to. Honestly, anything outside of that hasn’t touched my radar. I’ve been 100 per cent committed to the group here.” When asked directly if Celtic had contacted him, McKenna replied: “I’ve not had any of those conversations or anything of the like. My focus has been purely here.”
Wales boss Craig Bellamy, who previously played for Celtic in 2005, is also a coach the club admire. However, Bellamy and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) are currently focused on upcoming World Cup Qualifiers and preparations for the World Cup next summer in the USA. A win for Wales against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia would guarantee second place in Group J and a home playoff semi-final next March. Wales already have a playoff spot secured through their Nations League Group win last year, though that route doesn’t guarantee a home semi-final. Bellamy has publicly expressed his ambition to lead wales to the 2026 World Cup, a feat he was unable to achieve as a player.
