Cam’ron has filed a lawsuit against J. Cole, alleging a breach of agreement regarding collaboration following Cam’ron’s feature on Cole’s 2023 track, “Ready ’24.” The suit, filed Tuesday (Oct.28), centers on a purported promise from Cole to reciprocate the collaboration, either through a guest verse on a Cam’ron song or an appearance on the rapper’s “it is indeed What It Is” podcast.
The dispute stems from Cam’ron’s contribution to “Ready ’24,” a track from J. Cole’s Might Delete Later mixtape, released in April 2023. The lawsuit claims that Cole has repeatedly cited scheduling conflicts as a reason for not fulfilling his end of the agreement, prompting cam’ron to seek legal recourse. The financial stakes are meaningful, with Cam’ron requesting over $500,000 in damages and seeking to be legally recognized as a co-author of “Ready ’24.”
According to the legal filing, the initial collaboration took place in 2022. cam’ron asserts he has not received payment for his work on the song. Beyond the unfulfilled collaboration, “Ready ’24” notably samples The Diplomats’ 2002 hit “I’m Ready,” produced by The Heatmakerz.
J. Cole has remained largely quiet musically since the release of Might Delete Later, which featured contributions from artists including Gucci Mane, Central Cee, and Ari Lennox.Prior to the mixtape,Cole released the audio series Inevitable in November 2023,detailing his life and career, and the single ”Clouds” in February 2024.
As of today, J. Cole’s team has not issued a public statement regarding the lawsuit. XXL has reached out for comment.
